Al Jazeera America’s first Detroit bureau correspondent will be former WDIV-TV reporter Onile-Ere, Al Jazeera announced today. “Al Jazeera hired me because of my expertise in Detroit,” Onile-Ere, 34, said in a phone interview on Tuesday afternoon. She said she starts Monday in preparation for the launch of the channel on Aug. 20. In addition to working at WDIV, Onile-Ere was an anchor and reporter at the ABC affiliate in Flint, WJRT-TV, after beginning her career in Minnesota, where she grew up.
