Singles Inferno season 3 filming threatened endangered species as Netflix apologizes Thu

As a brand new installment of Singles Inferno arrives on Netflix, fans are curious to learn more about the show’s season 3 filming location. Eleven singletons are ready to find love in Inferno and transport themselves over to Paradise this December – their opportunity to do so comes much quicker than in the show’s previous seasons.

This year, the format of the series has encountered some changes. There’s a new host on the show, Dex, who was previously a Singles Inferno contestant himself. There are also two Inferno Islands in season 3, and Paradise is back with an added touch of luxury. Of course, the Netflix show’s infamous pool scenes are here to stay, and the cast members are also seen driving themselves around to different locations.

Where is Singles Inferno season 3 filmed?

Two years ago, Singles Inferno was a brand new dating show to Netflix.

The series’ concept almost combines Love Island with The Challenge. The contestants’ main aim is to connect with another cast member romantically, get themselves away from Inferno Island, and over to Paradise.

Singles Inferno seasons 1, 2, and 3 were all filmed on an uninhabited island called Saseungbong Do.

Saseungbong Do is a small island located off the coast of Incheon, South Korea.

Singles Inferno filming controversy

Despite all three Singles Inferno seasons being filmed on Saseungbong Do Island, a report from The Korea Times states filming was “unauthorized.” It reportedly took place “in an environmentally protected area.”

Saseungbong-do is uninhabited and almost untouched by humans.

However, the use of the area for the Netflix show saw temporary buildings built which caused controversy.

Medium reports the temporary buildings were “immediately demolished” and the area “restored.”

Netflix issues apology

According to The Korea Times, Netflix issued an apology for the filming controversy.

The report states the streaming giant said it had “the express approval of local government officials and property owners” to film Singles Inferno seasons 1 and 2.

“The company said it submitted a request to the Incheon Metropolitan City Government and Ongjin County asking for approval to film the latest show on the same island but claimed to be unaware that the area had been designated as a marine ecosystem conservation zone.”

The Korea Times notes the show’s filming location “is home to the horseshoe crab, an endangered species according to the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries.”

If approved by the local government, temporary structures can be built there. Netflix added all construction materials related to the show, and the temporary buildings used were removed after filming. It added that the island’s environment was to be restored to how it was before the show’s arrival.
