A MUM has revealed her genius hack for making modelling clay in the slow cooker, and you probably already have all the ingredients to make it.
Taking to the Facebook group Slow Cooker Recipe & Tips, the mum shared her genius tip, revealing you will need just six ingredients.
She recommends combining flour, salt and cream of tartar together and separately mixing oil, water and food colouring.
After combining the wet and dry in the slow cooker set the temperature to high for 45 minutes to an hour, stirring often.
Once the dough is ready, the mum adds a sprinkling of glitter, kneading it in to make sure it is completely combined – and then you’re ready to play!
The ingredients are ones most of us already have in the pantry meaning you can keep the kids entertained for next to nothing.
Captioning her snaps, she wrote: “Slow cooked Play-doh✌🏼 Highly recommended.”
And fellow parents were seriously impressed, applauding her recipe in the comments, with the post receiving hundreds of likes.
Slow cooker 'Play Doh' recipe
Ingredients
- 2 cups flour
- 1/2 cup salt
- 4 tbsp cream of tartar
- 2 cups water
- 2 tbsp oil
- 1-2 tsp food colouring
Method
Combine flour, salt and cream of tartar in a bowl.
In a separate bowl combine the water, oil and food colouring.
Pour the dry ingredients mix into the slow cooker bowl, add wet ingredients mix and combine thoroughly.
Place tea towel under lid and cook on HIGH for 45-60mins, stirring often for the first half hour of cooking time, then once or twice for the remainder.
Dough will be done when it forms and no longer sticks to the sides of your slow cooker.
You can test this by taking a small amount out, forming it into a ball and cooling in a freezer for a few minutes. You'll know it's ready when it doesn't stick to your fingers as you handle it. This small test ball can then be returned to the mix.
Remove complete mix from slow cooker, knead and place in container to cool.
When cool, store in fridge in your plastic air tight container.
This makes 1kg of play dough.
Vary the colours you use to make various coloured doughs. Add glitter for extra sparkle if desired.
