It might look like someone is abut to have to make an extremely awkward call to their home insurance company, but this stricken house, which appears to be being washed away down river, is really a brilliant one-off art installation.

The wacky piece entitled  'La maison dans la Loire' (The house in the Loire river) by French artist Jean-Luc Courcoult is one of nine huge installations commissioned for an art festival in and around the city of Nantes and the Loire river in France.

The region, in the west of the country, is currently staging two contemporary art events, the first, Estuaire, is set along the Loire estuary and the second, Le voyage a Nantes, takes place in forty stages stretching 8.5 km along the streets of Nantes

Other exhibits include a skeletel sea snake by Chinese artist Huang Yong Ping entitled Serpent d'ocean (Ocean snake) set up on the beach in the town of Saint-Brevin-les-Pins.

US artist Sarah Sze installed sculptures of two black bears on the banks of the Loire near the town of Bouguenais for her piece entitled The Settlers.

Japanese artist Tatzu Nishi's La villa cheminee (The chimney villa), on the banks of the Loire in Cordemais, resembles a quaint country cottage stuck on the top of a lighthouse tower.

Artists Petra Mrzyk and Jean-Francois Moriceau set up a brilliant sculpture of a pale white tree which they have called 'The Lunar Tree' in the city of Nantes.

The two events are taking simultaneously between June 15 and August 19.
